North Rowan Middle School was established in the early 1970’s when North Rowan Grammar and North Rowan Junior High were merged. The new school was housed in the former all-African American Dunbar facility on Long Street. In 1995, North Rowan Middle School was moved to Spencer. With this movement, the North Rowan community became one of the few places in North Carolina where community schools offered students a chance to attend and participate in school from Kindergarten to Twelfth Grade within a three-block area.
Although North Rowan Middle School prides itself on its beautiful and clean facility, we are even prouder of our organization centered around student achievement and learning. The school embraces the middle school concepts of teaming, flexible scheduling, interdisciplinary and grade-level planning and enrichment and remediation programs combined with a consistent support program in areas of guidance, athletics, the arts, and extra-curricular opportunities. Students are given every chance to develop their own unique talents and establish a strong foundation for future success as they pursue educational and personal goals. Our staff and administration take to heart the Mission Statement, which says, “North Rowan Middle School is committed to making a difference one child at a time.” Our history and tradition demand that we lead our students in reaching their potential as we continue to explore and incorporate effective and meaningful instruction into their lives. We pride ourselves on educating the whole child through building a bridge of trust and respect with the parents and community – always mindful that their children are our future.
