Ken Sherrill, Principal

Henderson Independent High School, formerly John S. Henderson Elementary School, was built in 1917 and named for John Steele Henderson.  John Steel Henderson, a Rowan County native, was a congressional representative from North Carolina and later a North Carolina Senator.   John S. Henderson Elementary School was destroyed by fire soon after opening and rebuilt in 1918.

Currently Henderson is an Alternative High School serving students in grades eight –twelve.  At Henderson Independent, a Day Program and an Extended Day program strives to meet the educational needs of students that are not enrolled in a traditional school setting. Mr. Ken Sherrill serves as Principal and Mr. Rodney Smith, Assistant Principal.
