WRMS Pilots Virtual Learning
West Rowan Middle School is piloting a Virtual Learning Day on Friday, March 17.
Previously, the Rowan-Salisbury Board of Education approved for WRMS to pilot virtual learning when the district experiences inclement weather days causing schools to be closed. This is an instructional day planned in advance by the teachers and staff at WRMS. The difference is that students will be learning from home. Since it does not appear that there will be a school closing due to inclement weather for the remainder of this school year, Superintendent Dr. Lynn Moody approved March 17 as a day for WRMS to ‘try it out.’
‘We want to do all that we can so that our students do not miss any instructional days due to bad weather,” says Dr. Moody. “This will give us an opportunity to see if this is something that we can look to as a future option. This is in no way a substitute for regular instruction.”
WRMS will be collecting data on the success of this day and how this may be used in the future. Currently the options for a missed school day due to inclement weather are to make up the day on a teacher workday, Saturday, during Spring Break, or to waive the missed day.
