GQES Student Is NC State “Doodle 4 Google” Winner

Granite Quarry Student Aryaman “AJ” Jana Is NC State "Doodle 4 Google" Winner
   **Now Let’s Make Him The National Winner! Aryaman J, NC -  http://www.google.com/doodle4google/vote.html

Congratulations to Aryaman “AJ” Jana, a 2nd grade Granite Quarry Elementary student, for winning the “Doodle 4 Google” contest as the Regional Finalist for the National Competition and the ONLY finalist from North Carolina. The announcement was made during a special assembly organized by Google – actually all 50 states were making similar announcements at the same time across the country! Google received over 130,000 entries  and only one finalist per state was selected!  Way to go AJ!!

Google provided a beautiful balloon structure and a 5’x8’ blown up version of the student’s winning Doodle to set the stage. The assembly took place at Granite Quarry Elementary on May 1st before the student body, staff, Google representatives, School Board member Jean Kennedy and Assistant Superintendent Gene Miller.

The school received 200 Google t-shirts and 500 Google stickers that were distributed to students and staff as part of the celebration fun!

**Between May 1-10, 2013, the public can vote online for their favorite doodle by visiting the Doodle 4 Google website at:  http://www.google.com/doodle4google/vote.html  AJ will now compete with the other finalists to be the national winner to be announced in New York on May 22nd. - So Please vote! You may vote from any technology device only once.


What are the prizes for winners?
The National Winner will have his or her doodle featured on the U.S. Google.com homepage on May 23, 2013. He or she will be awarded a $30,000 college scholarship, a trip to New York for an event on May 22, 2013 and a t-shirt printed with his or her doodle on it. We'll also award the winner's full time school a $50,000 technology grant towards the establishment or improvement of a computer lab or technology programming.

Each of the other four National Finalists will win a $5,000 college scholarship, a trip to New York for the final event on May 22, 2013, and a t-shirt printed with their doodle on it.

Each of the other 50 State Winners will win a trip to New York for the final event on May 22, 2013 and a t-shirt printed with their doodles on it. All 50 state winners will also have their doodle displayed in a special exhibit at the American Museum of Natural History in New York May 22-July 14.

Doodle 4 Google is a competition open to K-12 students of U.S. schools to create their own Google doodle inspired by the theme, "My Best Day Ever.” AJ’s ‘best day ever’ doodle was titled: “The Day My Little Sister Was Born.”

The 50 state winners’ doodles will be on display at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City from May 22 - July 14.
