Ethan H. Shive Elementary School opened in August of 2007 to serve students in the East and South Rowan areas. The majority of the students and staff came together from Bostian Elementary, Faith Elementary, and Rockwell Elementary. The school was named in honor of Ethan H. Shive, a Rowan County native who spent his entire career educating the youth of Rowan County. Not only did he educate, but so did his mother and three sons. This tradition continues as three of his granddaughters and a daughter-in-law helped to open this school named in his honor. The school mascot is the “Stinger” which bears our school colors of red, yellow and blue. Those colors are symbolic of the middle and high schools’ colors our students will attend. We are building a family of learners who respect one another and hold each other accountable to life long learning.
