Welcome to Kindergarten!
Where Learning is Always in Bloom!
I am so excited to see the growth that your kindergartner is already showing! Each child will progress and learn this year to their best abilities. It will be an exciting time for your child to shine!
Reading Skills
At this time we are exploring and learning about our ZooPhonics reading program. ZooPhonics is a fun and exciting way for children to learn the letter sounds while learning about each zoo animal that represents the letters. ZooPhonics is able to reach out to many different learning styles and we have already seen a lot of success with our students. If your child does not know the letter sounds, please spend some time practicing this very important skill. It is the foundation of reading.
For those students who know all their letter sounds, we are working on letter names and how to write each letter correctly.
Reading Homework:
Take some time to read to your child each night. You would be amazed at how spending this reading time with your child could enhance their reading abilities!
High Frequency Words:
Below is a list of 25 high frequency words that your child should be able to read and spell by the end of the year. It would be a great idea to begin working on these words a little at a time. We will be assessing each child at various times during the year on their ability to read and spell these words.

Writing
We are working on writing each letter correctly and neatly. In story writing, the children are learning to draw detailed pictures with characters and setting. They will also be learning to write a sentence to go along with their picture. We do understand that they will not be able to spell all the words correctly. It is more important to us that they learn to sound the words out, leave spaces between each word, and use capitals and punctuation correctly. We would love to see every child be able to draw a picture and write atleast 2 sentences about it! It's hard work, but they can do it!

In Math, our goal for this year is for each child to count to 100, identify numbers to 100, and write numbers in order and out of order to 20. If this goal is met, it would be great if they could write their numbers to 100!! Sorting, graphing, making patterns, and learning about shapes are important skills in kindergarten that your child would be learning throughout the year.
