We're half way through the year!!!
As we begin the 2nd semester, we will be learning about "Ratios and Proportions". Proportional reasoning is one of the most important concepts for future work with algebra. Rates and ratios are used in everyday communication and are key to work in architecture, engineering, and all areas of math and science. Please keep in mind, as we begin this new ratio and proportion unit, our students still need to practice and learn their multiplication tables, integer rules, proportional formulas and conversion rules for percents, fractions and decimals. We will be using these as we continue to explore mathematics in the real world and use mathematics in our daily life.
A few reminders for the new semester...
- Each student needs to have a Math notebook to record and work their morning warm-ups in. I will check their notebooks to make sure they are keeping up with our daily warm-ups and class notes. A quarterly classwork grade will be given for their daily input and the neatness of the notebook.
- They also need to have a pencil for math class. Pens are convenient and nice to write with but in mathematics, it's way to easy to make a mistake, so a pencil and eraser is needed every day.
- Any assignments that your child may miss due to absences is always available for make-up. It is the student's responsibility to check our class homework calendar and class file folder for missed work. If they do not check the missed assignments trays, they may find a low grade for the missed assignment.
And, if you can HELP... our class in is need of boxes of tissues and copy paper (letter size). If you can help, I would greatly appreciate it!
Thanks and if you need anything at all, please don't hesitate to call or email me. :)
