Mrs. Sakinah Riley is the new 2012 RSSS Teacher of the Year!
The announcement was made this morning at the Annual Teacher of the Year Breakfast that was held at the Holiday Inn of
Salisbury and sponsored by the Rowan County Chamber of Commerce. In addition to sponsoring the TOY Breakfast, the Chamber of Commerce presented Mrs. Riley with a $1,000 stipend to be used for the school or classroom.
On behalf of the Rowan-Salisbury Board of Education, Chairman Dr. Jim Emerson presented Mrs. Riley with a check in the amount of $1,000, a new iPad, iPad cover, and a new printer.
Mrs. Riley will also receive the “Phillip J. Kirk, Jr. Honored Educator Scholarship” for a weeklong seminar sponsored by NCCAT (North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching).
Mrs. Riley is a teacher at Salisbury High School.
Mr. Jason Chester, teacher at West Rowan High School, was named Runner-Up. Mr. Chester received a gift certificate donated by Dr. Alan King of Creative Teaching Aids.

All 35 Teachers of the Year were presented certificates by Superintendent Dr. Judy Grissom. In addition, they all received mugs from the Chamber filled with items donated from Office Depot, a tote bag from Office Depot,
a “day spa” certificate from Greystone Salon & Spa, a certificate from Sam’s Car Wash, and a gourmet delight from L. A. Murph's.
This morning’s event was attended by over 100 principals, TOYs, RSS Administrators, School Board members, Chamber of Commerce members, the TOY selection committee members and elected officials.
