Second Round of Interviews for Morgan Elementary Principal
We completed the second round of interviews for the principal vacancy at Morgan Elementary School. These decisions are never easy ones!  A recommendation will be made to the School Board on May 20th.

Superintendent’s Advisory Team Meeting
The Superintendent’s Advisory Team met to discuss the following agenda items:
• School Board Agenda Items for May 20
• Update on Budget for 2013-2014
• Principal Interviews
• Legislation and Ramifications

STEM Elementary School Visits’ Debriefing
The group of teachers, principals, and central office administrators who visited several STEM schools these past few weeks met to debrief and discuss their findings. The team discussed the possibility of a STEM School at Overton Elementary School and Isenberg Elementary. Ideas were shared to expand opportunities for STEM at Knox Middle School. The group selected dates for summer training on problem-based learning and the engineering process.

Salisbury Rotary Raffle
Instead of the weekly meeting of the Salisbury Rotary Club, the annual raffle/dinner was held at the Depot. All of the proceeds go toward scholarships in our school district. 

Workforce Development Alliance Committee Meeting
The Workforce Development Alliance Committee met and discussed the following agenda items:
• Survey Results from the “How to Set Yourself Apart from the Competition” Event
• Future Marketing Plan for Events
• Future Event Ideas
• GAP Results
• Committee Additions

Rowan County Chamber of Commerce Executive Board Meeting
The Executive Board for the Rowan County Chamber of Commerce met to prepare for the upcoming regular Board meeting.  

Retirement GALA
We recognized our retirees with a Retirement Gala at the YMCA.  106 of the Rowan-Salisbury School System family retired this year for a total of 2,848 years of service to education, with 2,290 of those years in our school system. We are fortunate to have so many dedicated staff members supporting our students. Thanks to all the retirees for your many years of dedication and commitment.  You will be missed.

Civitan of Salisbury Meeting
Dari Caldwell was the guest speaker for the Salisbury Civitan Club.  Dari is the CEO of Novant Rowan Regional Medical Center.  She shared with the group the mission and vision of the hospital and accomplishments over the last few years.

Elizabeth Duncan Koontz Humanitarian Awards Dinner
I attended the Elizabeth Duncan Koontz Humanitarian Awards Dinner. Dr. Albert Aymer, Wilson Cherry, Dr. Mary Frances Edens, and the JF Hurley Family received awards for their contributions to improving human relations in our community. The Knox Middle School Jazz Band performed and Ms. Linda Kelly was the guest speaker.

Second Round of Interviews for Enochville Elementary Principal
We completed the second round of interviews for the principal of Enochville Elementary School.  We had an excellent slate of candidates. A recommendation will be made to the School Board on May 20th.

Individual Conferences
A tremendous amount of time this week was spent in individual conferences about personnel issues, conference calls, and other confidential meetings as well as conference calls with our attorneys. It is that time of year!
