The planetarium is open the 3rd Saturday of each month. Please check the Schedule and Show Descriptions as there have been many changes from previous years. Any updates throughout the school year will be made to this website. Doors open and ticket sales begin 30 minutes prior to each show. Programs typically last about one hour and are suitable for general audiences, unless otherwise noted.
The Margaret C. Woodson Planetarium has been in operation since 1967 and is still using the original Spitz A3P star projector. In 2006 the facility was upgraded from slide-based programming to digital projection using East Coast Control System automation. There is a 30-foot dome and seating for 72.
In addition to school curriculum-based programming, the facility is available by special request. Live star talks, planetary journeys, and space exploration are some of the many topics available. We also offer a wide range of laser light programs from Pink Floyd to U2; Metallica to Zeppelin! In addition there are seasonal shows and laser star stories. Playlists can be adjusted in length and content to suit your needs. Groups interested in scheduling an event should contact Jennifer Barbee, the Planetarium Director, for date, pricing and time availability.
