The Battle of the Books is a state-wide reading competition. Students read from the state selected list of books and practice as a team at the school level. The Battle of the Books (BOB) team for Erwin is selected each January based on a written test. The test consists of two questions per book. Students must give the book title and author that goes with the question. All Erwin students who read at least 10 BOB books may try out for the team. The top scoring students will make the Erwin BOB Team. Up to twelve team members may be selected.
The Erwin BOB team competes with the area middle schools to determine the Rowan County BOB champion. Schools participating include: China Grove, Corriher-Lipe, Erwin, Knox, North, Southeast, and West. Each school battles the other schools and the points earned in each round are combined for a total score. The BOB team with the most points is declared the Rowan County champion. This team represents Rowan-Salisbury Schools at the Northwest Regional BOB competition. The Regional BOB champ goes to the highest level of competition - State Battle of the Books.
