Writing Fun ~ Uses text organizers to help students with the following types of writing: Information report, narrative, procedure, response, description, recount, explanation, persuation (exposition), discussion and poetry. Everyday  texts (letters, invitations, email and news) are also covered. Has a section to download any organizer for use in the classroom. Each type of writing covered includes several examples and students are given a chance to write online.
Charlotte's Web ~ Lesson Plans, contests, games, coloring sheets and activities related to the release of the movie and the book.
Reading Rockets  Reading Rockets is a national multimedia project offering information and resources on how young kids learn to read, why so many struggle, and how caring adults can help. This is accomplished by providing accurate, accessible information on how to teach kids to read and help those who struggle. The site provides free guides, quick tips for parents as well as webcast and podcasts for teachers and parents. This is a very comprehensive site.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory ~ Contains a variety of activities including media, fun and games, cast and crew and characters (for lesson plans click on the About the book link).
Story Line Online BookPals Site (stories read by famous people) ~ On-line streaming video program featuring actors reading children's books aloud! Each book includes accompanying activities and lesson plans. Features the Screen Actors Guild Foundation.
PBS Between the Lions Site ~ Activities Designed to work in both the home and classroom for children ages four to seven. Focusing on early literacy.

Nursery Rhymes-There are three sites that are good for nursery rhymes each takes a different slant on it.

  • Nursery Rhymes - Lyrics and Origins-The origins of most nursery rhymes reflect events in history. This site has tried to include both the meanings and origins of everyone's favorite nursery rhymes.
  • A-Rhyme-A-Week - If "an apple a day will keep the doctor away", then perhaps a-rhyme-a-week will keep school failure at bay. WIL's A-Rhyme-a-Week phonological awareness program features 30 different nursery rhymes presented in a formulated matter to teach phonological awareness.
Starfall ~ The Starfall learn-to-read web site is offered free as a public service. Primarily designed for first grade, Starfall.com is also useful for pre-kindergarten and second grade.
Math
National Library of Virtual Manipulatives ~ eModules are interactive online units that target objectives identified as important in state and national standards, include lesson plans, contain interactive online activities, and provide online assessments. Each eModule is intended to cover between one and three class periods of instruction.
Java Math Site ~ Provides Java™ Applets that can be used as tools to help and enhance the education of children both at school and at home.
AAAMath ~ Start with the addition page and explore to other grade levels and math topics.
Dositey time Telling page ~ Has exercises and explanations on how to tell time, goes to the quarter of the hour.
Telling time on the Hour ~ Allows students to pick on of three clocks that shows a specific time.
KidsNumbers.com ~ The absolutely free math resource designed by teachers, specifically for students and children of all ages. A place where students can practice all aspects of math, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, in a fun and pressure free way. Also has worksheet generator page.
Fun Brain Math Arcade ~ Lots of interactive games that concentrate on math to solve them. Click on the start square on the game board to begin.  Gives students passwords so they can come back later and begin where they finished in the previous game.
Count us in ~ Designed to help children understand basic concepts of mathematics.
Rainforest Maths ~ Interactive math sites with activities that include numbers & number systems, operations adn calculations, strategies and processes, patterns and algebra, measurement, space and geometry, chance and probablility, data analysis as well as money. Skills are broken down by grade level.
Cool Math 4 Kids ~ An amusement park of math and more -- especially designed for kids. Lots of lessons and practice to help kids learn and review basic math concepts.
Science
Mineral Information Institute ~ The purpose of MII's educational programs is to help you teach your students about the importance of our natural resources - How we use them every day and usually never bother to think about where they came from. By using natural resources as topics to teach the various curriculums that you are being held accountable to, you can simultaneously meet many of the state standards in a variety of subjects. With these packets you will have original quality pages for your use and to reproduce for your students. Lots of relative examples, cross curricular skills and engaged learning occurs using these lessons.
Smithsonian ~ The Smithsonian has collected more than 142 million objects—from flags and fossils, to sculptures and spacecrafts, to toys and tapestries. NASA Kids Club ~NASA, has launched a new web site for children in kindergarten through fifth grade. The Kids' Club web site features animated, colorful, entertaining, and educational activities. Interactive games on the site teach children about exploring space, building and launching rockets, keeping airplanes on schedule, and how a comet travels through the solar system.

Social Studies
Garden of Praise ~ Biographies for kids, famous leaders for young readers and more can be found on this site. Stories of presidents, inventors, educators, scientist , businessmen and women are presented to inspire students to follow their example of courage, determination, honesty and willingness to work.
National Geographic ~ As one of the largest private nonprofit scientific and educational organizations, National Geographic is committed to playing a vital role in education. The Society educates and inspires millions every day through its magazines, books, television programs, videos, maps and atlases, research grants, global exploration, teacher workshops, innovative classroom materials, and the National Geographic Bee.
The President's Own Marine Corp Band ~ Learn lots of history about the United States and the White House while learning about the Marine Corp Band and it's rich history of service to the president. This site is good for both music and social studies.

Teach-nology ~ This web site is a wealth of support for educators!  It has may tools to use, such as a Bingo Card Creator. You will enter your word list and the computer creates a card that you can print. Then click on the "Shuffle" button and the computer will automatically create a different card to print.  You can create whole class sets using this method and end those times of creating class sets of cards by hand!  Please visit this site for a wealth of other tools such as “Crossword Maker”, “Classroom Material Maker”, “Word Search Maker”, “Calendar”, and more.

NetSmartz ~ NetSmartz® is an interactive, educational safety resource from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children® (NCMEC) and Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) for children aged 5 to 17, parents, guardians, educators, and law enforcement that uses age-appropriate, 3-D activities to teach children how to stay safer on the Internet

World Music ~ This site offers songs and music samples from different regions and all over the world. Music is sorted by region, country, artist, and genre. You may also listen and watch videos of music from all over the world. This site allows you to explore new cultures from an uncommon perspective.
PBS Music ~ Explore songs from all of your favorite PBS shows.

New York Philharmonic Site ~ This site correlates with NCSCOS goals 3,4,5,6,7,8 & 9. The children are able to explore the following:
Game Room: games that enhance musical knowledge
Instrument Storage Room: explore each section of the orchestra
Dressing Rooms: learn about conductors and soloists
Instrument Lab: learn how to make homemade instruments and create your own
Musician's Lounge: get to know the NY Phil musicians

Newstand: stay up to date on the NY Phil

This web site integrates math, reading, and science! Students as young as second grade would enjoy this site. The audio samples worked well on this site.

Playmusic.org ~ This site is really easy to use and could be used by your youngest students - in fact my 16 month old grandson likes it when I take him there. The audio samples played without any difficulty. For older students, the information on how the instrument is played is excellent.
Dallas Symphony ~ This site is also really well done. It has a section for kids and a section for teachers. In the kids section there is an orchestra seating chart, an instrument encyclopedia, a “make your own instruments” section and an excellent section telling students how to practice. This section would be great for beginning band, orchestra or piano students. I had more difficulty with audio samples on this site on my Mac. Audio samples use windows media player.
The Symphony: An Interactive Guide ~ This site is excellent for upper elementary. There is a section on composers, a guide to the orchestra, a symphonic quiz (use this as part of a webquest!) a section on countries that composers come from and a crash course in symphonic form.
Renaissance Instruments ~ This is a superb site with pictures and audio samples of many Renaissance instruments.
