"READ UNDER THE BIG TOP"

Our reading theme for the year is a Circus theme.  We have many activities planned throughout the year to celebrate the love of reading.

The Faith School Media Center has been turned into a "Circus" to go along with our 2007-08 reading theme, "Read Under the Big Top".   The WFES Broadcast Team brings the news to our students each morning from the back drop above.

Elementary Battle of the Books

Congratulations to the following students who will make up this year's Battle of the Books Team:

Corbin Benton, Tori Isenhour, Margaret Young, Callie Slife, Jocelyn Lowe,

Chance Brown, Caroline Dean, Kierstyn Buchanan, and Rachel Eller

Students read 12 books from a selection chosen by the NCSLMA.  Students must know the athor and title of these books in order to answer the questions.  Students must be dedicated to reading and reviewing for the competition. These students will battle against other teams in our school district in March.

Flexible Access

This year the media center is trying to provide more access for students and teachers.  Students in grades second through fifth may come to the media center everyday to checkout books.  We are also working on special projects with third, fourth, and fifth grade students.  Fourth and fifth grade students recently completed a project on habitats and biomes.  Each student researched an animal to find our which habitat it lived in and also answered several questions about their animal.  After completing their research, they made a trading card in the computer lab, with the gudiance of our technology facilitator, Mrs. Weddington. Third grade students will be completing a project on penguins. After reading Mr. Popper's Penguin in their classroom, students will come to the media center to research a particular penguin.  The essential question is:  What would you do if you were given a penguin for a pet?  Students must find out what their penguin eats, what it's habitat needs to be like, how much will it cost to keep the penguin, etc.
