Calendar for the 2008-2009 School Year

Rowan County Early College will open in the fall of 2008 for incoming 9th graders on the Rowan Cabarrus Community College Campus in Salisbury. The Early College program is a part of Governor Easley's Learn and Earn Initative to help students obtain career and college goals while still in high school. Current 8th grade students will receive information as part of their high school registration packet and more information will be provided by guidance counselors and administrators. Watch for a promotional brochure and DVD to be available at this website very soon. Rowan County Early College is a non-traditional high school that is a blend of high school and college. It is not an alternative or fast-track high school. The school is designed to serve under represented students such as first generation college students with an emphasis on powerful teaching and learning. The school will: -integrate high school and the college experience -improve college preparedness -provide personalization -provide rigorous coursework
Students will graduate with a high school diploma and two years of college credit that can be transferred to the student's selected college. Students will be selected using consistent, fair criteria established by the state for early college high schools and by a local system-wide selection committee. The application process will involve a process of of initial application screening and a scheduled interview for the finalists. There are no student costs for: tuition, textbooks, or transportation..
